Edwardian Kentucky Oaks Hat - Lovely Maria - One of a Kind
Thoroughbred fillies that are 3.5 years old are the contestants in the Kentucky Oaks which is held the Friday before the Kentucky Derby. In 1875, the Kentucky Oaks preluded the Kentucky Derby and has become an integral part of the derby experience ever since. The race is 1 1/8 miles and the jockey must 121 lbs. or less. When the horse and rider enter the winner's circle, they are draped with a blanket of Lilies instead of the roses blanketing the Kentucky Derby winner.
The beautiful thoroughbred racehorse, Lovely Maria, won two of her first six races. Her first major win was in the Ashland Stakes in April 2015 just before winning the Kentucky Oaks on May 1, 2015. Lovely Maria has won four of 11 career starts for earnings of $1,003,000. She was trained by Larry Jones.
Sadly Lovely Maria was sold to a Japanese buyer the beginning of 2016. She'll be missed her in the USA! I thought she was so beautiful that I wanted to dedicate a Kentucky Oaks hat to her...I hope she's happy in her new home and I also hope to see her race again someday.

Pink Edwardian Kentucky Oaks hat "Lovely Maria" is a One of a Kind designed over a hot pink sinamay base with a triple layer brim. The hat is accented with a gorgeous 12 inch in diameter handmade rose, also in a shade of hot pink. The gorgeous ostrich plumes in shades of pink are the finishing touch for a magnificent look! This hat will turn heads when you walk by and I believe is perfect for the Oaks derby on the Friday before the Kentucky Derby. Keep in mind that the Oaks is dedicated to the support and remembrance of breast cancer survivors, so a pink hat is a must...not required, but they do have a hat parade and contest too.
